The Russian-Ukrainian war has been going on for 172 days, and only now the true reasons for Russia’s actions in Ukraine are becoming clear, while hiding behind beautiful expressions like “denazify”, “save the Russians in Ukraine”, “overcome Rusophobia” and the like. In fact, the Russian Federation, in the framework of the so-called “special military operation”, is seizing Ukrainian territories that have a lot of natural resources in their bowels.
The Washington Post reports that after a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia had took control of mineral deposits worth a total of 12.4 trillion dollars, in turn, the American publication refers to specific data from the Canadian analytical company SecDev.
According to the company, 63 % of Ukrainian coal deposits, 11 % of oil reserves, 20 % of natural gas, 42 % of metals and a third of rare earth deposits, including lithium, which is necessary for the production of batteries, are now under Russian occupation. Ukraine also lost large deposits of uranium, gold and limestone. All in all, Kyiv could lose access to two-thirds of its energy and mineral reserves.
By stealing Ukraine’s natural deposits, Russia also hopes that with the growing consumption of resources needed for the production of high-tech products, it will be difficult for European countries and the United States to find alternatives to existing deposits. Russia is trying to seize Ukrainian resources in advance so that the West cannot cooperate with Kyiv in this area.
Putin’s greed is insatiable, because Russia, having such huge reserves of resources, is still trying to capture it in Ukraine and thereby provoke the beginning of the Third World War. According to the Pentagon, from the beginning of the war in Ukraine, from 70 to 80 thousand Russian troops were killed and injured. This suggested that Putin is ready to sacrifice a large number of lives of his own soldiers to receive at least some of the resources, only to prevent them from reaching the West.
