Russian Assets Arrested by Western Countries Will Go to the Restoration of Ukraine

On May 29, Polish President A. Duda took the initiative to confiscate those Russian funds that were used to promote Russian projects in Europe, with their subsequent transfer to Ukraine as compensation for the destruction caused by Russia. Earlier, US Attorney General Merrick Garland ruled in favor of transferring the seized assets of the Russian oligarch K. Malofeev to Kyiv. This is the first such precedent. It should become an example for other countries to follow that have frozen the monetary assets of the Russian Federation.

The amount of damage caused by the Russians during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine is at least 750 billion US dollars. At the same time, Western countries have frozen Russian assets amounting to 300 billion euros. Considering that each new day of the war brings additional destruction and losses to Ukraine, the use of the seized Russian funds as partially compensation for such damage seems to be a logical solution. In addition, if the Kremlin regains control over the frozen assets, they will immediately be used to finance the war and lead to escalation, destruction and loss of life. Russia is heavily militarized, so depriving it of financial and technological self-sufficiency is a crucial task in the context of leveling its threat to the West.

Russia is a terrorist state that unleashed a war of conquest in the 21st century. The Kremlin poses a huge threat to the civilized world. Putin does not intend to retreat and uses all the resources at his disposal to continue the war. In his perception, the territorial expansion of the Russian Federation should go beyond Ukraine to Europe. Accordingly, the neutralization of Russia, the systemic weakening of its economy, industry, and hence military strength should become a common task for the West. Ukraine suffered enormous damage during the war started by Putin, so the transfer of Russian assets seized in the West to Ukraine is an appropriate and logical decision in favor of a country defending peace in Europe.
