Russians Use Banned Chemical Weapons in Donbas, Killing Ukrainian Military and Polluting the Environment

During the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian troops violated all possible conventions and norms of international law many times and used banned chemical weapons against Ukrainian military. Earlier, Russia tried to hide it, but now it openly declares it.

On the official Telegram page of the neo-Nazi Rusich group, which is part of the Russian Armed Forces and is fighting in Ukraine, a message was published about the preparation of a chemical attack on soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Russians drop containers with the dangerous chloropicrin substance from an unmanned aerial vehicle on the positions of the Ukrainian military. The substance causes severe inflammation of the eyes, nose, throat, and respiratory tract upon contact. It quickly deprives a person of combat capability, and its high concentration can lead to death. In addition, the chemical poisons the water and food of the soldiers. Soviet troops massively used chloropicrin back in Afghanistan, and now Russian troops use it in Ukraine. K-51 chloropicrin grenades, which are used in the Russian army, are considered as chemical weapons. The Geneva Protocol states that tear gas is a chemical weapon banned in war but legal for law enforcement purposes. Moreover, K-51 grenades have a significantly higher concentration of the substance. The chemical was first used in September 2022 in the Kherson region.

In addition to chloropicrin, Russian troops are attacking Ukrainian cities with white phosphorus munitions. Recall that on March 14, near Chasiv Yar, Donetsk region, Russian troops used phosphorus bombs on the road to the city of Bakhmut. The Geneva Convention prohibits the use of this type of projectile outside and in populated areas. However, Russia repeatedly used them against the civilian population during the full-scale war against Ukraine.

The Russian Federation is the No. 1 terrorist country in the world. The Russian army kills civilians, uses chemical weapons, and openly carries out public executions. For all its crimes, Russia must be punished and isolated from the entire civilized world.
