The 3rd Separate Air Assault Brigade Tour and the Kremlin’s Toxic Tactics

The 3rd Separate Air Assault Brigade tour, aimed at popularizing the volunteer movement, an event that is taking place in the heart of Europe, has showed the weakness of Russian propaganda. This tour has caused a new wave of information warfare: Russian media uses old methods to tarnish the Ukrainian army again.

When Ukrainian fighters announced their tour of the European cities, Russian propagandists immediately used their tactics. The Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, is known for its manipulations, published an article with an alarming headline: “Neo-Nazis Ukrainian battalion arrives in Rotterdam.” The article condemns not only the idea of the tour, but also criticizes the fighters themselves, calling them “neo-Nazis.” This is a part of a larger information campaign aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian military.

What is surprising is that the author of this article is Iffet Subasi, a Turkish journalist who previously worked for Russian media. Her sudden decision to take up the topic of Ukrainian “neo-Nazis” looks like a well-planned information attack, as previously she did not write articles on Ukraine. Subasi worked for the Turkish TRT and then for the Russian Sputnik Media. This coincidence highlights the close connection between Russian propaganda and the journalists who work for it.

But why does the Russian propaganda work against the 3rd Separate Air Assault Brigade? The answer is the recent decision of Biden’s Administration to allow the use of American weapons by the Azov Brigade. This decision was a serious blow to Russian propaganda, which had long tried to describe the Azov Brigade as neo-Nazis. Now that American weapons have become available to the Ukrainian military, Russian media are forced to use old myths and strategies to distract attention from the real problems. Journalists like Subasi, who serve as tools of Russian propaganda, are spreading rumors and disinformation in Europe. While the fighters of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade continue their tour, telling the truth about the war in Ukraine and their efforts to fight for justice, Russian intelligence services are trying to use every opportunity to hide the truth in the shadow of disinformation. It is important for the international community to understand these manipulations and support the true facts about the Ukrainian army and its efforts to fight for the country.
