Ismail Haniyeh, a senior Hamas leader, has been killed in Tehran along with one of his bodyguards, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Wednesday.
Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian’s swear-in ceremony on Tuesday.
The Guard said Haniyeh’s residence was targeted and the attack remained under investigation.
“The residence of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political office of Hamas Islamic Resistance, was hit in Tehran, and as a result of this incident, him and one of his bodyguards were martyred,” the statement read.
