On September 22, the two-day UN Summit of the Future took place in New York. It is an important step towards reforming the international cooperation system. This Summit precedes the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly and demonstrates the desire of the world community to address global challenges. The main outcome of the event was the adoption of the Future Pact, which includes more than 50 paragraphs aimed at improving the work of international institutions and their adaptation to the challenges of the 21st century. Among the main topics are global security, human rights protection, sustainable development and reform of the UN Security Council.
The adoption of the Future Pact is a landmark event for Ukraine and the entire civilized world, since the proposed reforms can help strengthen international law, justice and security. A crucial aspect for Ukraine is reforming the UN Security Council, where Russia, having the right of veto, has repeatedly blocked decisions condemning its aggression. The reform involves reducing the influence of countries like Russia on peacekeeping efforts, which will allow the international community to respond more effectively to global challenges and aggression.
Russia, Belarus and several other states tried to amend the Principle of Non-Interference in Internal Affairs, but their proposal was rejected by the majority of UN participants. Despite the protest of these countries, the document was adopted by consensus, which underlines the world community’s determination to move forward, not allowing individual states to block progress on global security and justice.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will soon address the UN General Assembly, where he will present a Victory Plan to the United States and other key partners of Ukraine. This document covers further support for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression and the provision of long-range weapons with the possibility of using them to strike Russian military targets. In the war, Ukraine fights not only for its territorial integrity and independence, but also for the protection of the democratic values of Europe and the international order.
Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula is already known on the international arena. It is based on the principles of the UN Charter and includes key elements such as the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, the withdrawal of Russian troops, and international security guarantees. In addition, it covers important aspects of preventing nuclear and energy threats, releasing prisoners, bringing war crimes to justice, and the restoration of infrastructure and environmental safety. The Peace Formula remains an important basis for negotiations and future peace agreements, offering a fair and stable path to end the war.
Currently, to support Ukraine is critical not only for its victory, but also for the preservation of international law and order. The United States, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Canada, and Poland play a key role by providing Ukraine with weapons, ammunition, and air defense systems. Such common assistance, in addition to European allies, is crucial for Ukraine’s ability to counter the aggressor. Decisive action, such as the provision of long-range weapons, could be a turning point in helping Ukraine defend its territory and contribute to the establishment of a fair and sustainable peace based on international law.
