On June 15-16, Switzerland will host an important international event — the first inaugural Global Peace Summit. This is a unique platform for discussing and solving global challenges, which will bring together leaders from all continents. About 100 countries out of 160 invited have already confirmed their participation in the international event. The Peace Summit can bring the end of Russia’s unprovoked war against Ukraine closer and speed up assistance to the affected country.
Many world leaders are expected to attend the summit in Switzerland, including French President Emmanuel Macron, who confirmed his presence and expressed his readiness to expand support for Ukraine. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of European Council Charles Michel. The US delegation will be led by Vice President Kamala Harris and Biden’s National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan. Argentine President Javier Milei has decided at the last moment to attend the Global Peace Summit, his sister and Defense Minister Luis Petri will also join the delegation. It should be noted that Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and others have also confirmed their participation. It is known that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will also attend the Summit.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will also attend the event, continuing his efforts to support peace and calling for international cooperation against Russia’s war of conquest. “Vladimir Putin must realize that he cannot win his brutal campaign… The policy of peace means that we support Ukraine,” the German Chancellor said.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has identified 3 out of 10 points of the “Peace Formula” to discuss at the Peace Summit in Switzerland:
- nuclear security;
- food security;
- exchange of the prisoner of war in the “all for all” format and the return of children illegally deported to Russia.
However, one of the key issues remains the restoration of a just peace in Ukraine and an end to Russian aggression, which has been going on for three years now.
The importance of the Peace Summit
The Peace Summit in Switzerland aims to strengthen international cooperation and dialogue in the face of growing global challenges. The conflict in Ukraine, started by Russia, is not only a regional problem, but also a global threat. Russia has already created islands of instability in Georgia, Moldova and Syria, and now Vladimir Putin is threatening the Baltic countries, Germany, Poland and even NATO. This cannot be allowed. The war must not spread further across the planet!
Participation of countries from all continents
To end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible, it is necessary to involve the countries from all continents. Each region of the world has a good opportunity to make its own unique contribution:
- Europe and North America. Countries in these regions have significant political and economic influence, which can be used to put pressure on Russia and support Ukraine.
