Russian Clericalism at Work: the Russian Orthodox Church Openly Calls for War against the Ukrainian People

After the start of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, many parishioners expected from the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) at least to be restrained and anti-war position. As a Christian religious organization, it could condemn a fierce war against the Ukrainian people.

Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church not only did not condemn the war, but even blessed the Russian soldiers to commit crimes, promised a heavenly life to anyone who goes to kill Ukrainians, loot, rape and destroy the cities and villages of civilians in a country neighboring Russia. In addition, he prays for the health of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who launched a full-scale bloody war against Ukraine.

No true Christian or supporter of another faith will allow himself to call for the killing of innocent civilians, blasphemy against religious shrines, or shelling of churches.

The activity of the ROC is one of the components of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It is the Russian Orthodox Church that is the core mechanism of the anti-Ukrainian hysteria in the Russian Federation. Today even anti-war calls are considered a split in the Russian Orthodox Church.

The Russian Orthodox Church has long ceased to be a church professing faith in Christ, becoming a bloody sect of admirers of the Russian dictator. One of the clergymen of the Russian Orthodox Church, Mikhail Vasiliev, distinguished a few months ago by calling on Russian women to give birth more so that they would not be so sorry to send their children to war, because they in fact do not return alive. This Russian priest even came to the front to bless the Russian soldiers, but died a few days ago.

The Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, following Putin, has recognized the criminal occupation by Russia of the Ukrainian territories of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhzhia and Kherson regions, in fact supporting the imperialist and expansionist intentions of the Russian authorities.

In turn, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew advised the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill to leave his throne and dissociate himself from the war. He expressed regret over Kirill’s position on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, the Russian Patriarch did not react at all to the words of the Patriarch of Constantinople.

Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church is the same war criminal as Russian President Vladimir Putin. Therefore, the international community needs to impose sanctions at the church level, namely against the ROC.
