Russia Wants to Provoke Global Famine by Shelling Farmland in Ukraine

On the eve of Easter, Russian troops on the left bank of the Kherson Oblast of Ukraine began fierce shelling of its right-bank part. The Kherson Oblast, the Ukraine breadbasket, is well known for its agricultural potential. The Russians want to provoke global famine by disrupting the sowing campaign on Ukrainian agricultural land.

After the beginning of a full-scale war against Ukraine, the Russians began to block its food exports. After the start of the sowing campaign in March 2023, Russian troops began systematic shelling of the right-bank part of the Kherson Oblast, which is famous for its agricultural potential. Putin wants to provoke a global food crisis in those countries that are vulnerable in the context of food imports. In Putin’s perception, the flow of refugees from Africa and the Middle East should destabilize EU countries that support Ukraine. Thus, Russia is trying to create a socio-political crisis in the EU for the sake of its comprehensive weakening.

A terrorist state’s attempts to provoke a global food crisis must be met decisively. The Russian army must be defeated in Ukraine. Maximum sanctions must be imposed on the Russian economy, which will set it back decades. Only in this way can neutralize the threat of Russia’s territorial expansion into Europe.
